Cakwe (Fried Bread Sticks) Cakwe comes originally from China, in Chinese it's called 油条 (yóutiáo) which means "oil strips".

It could be found in the street carts at schools or in restaurants. In Indonesia, the fried dough is known as cakwe (pronounced ). It is commonly chopped or thinly sliced and then eaten for breakfast with bubur ayam (chicken porridge) or eaten as snacks with dipping of local version of chilli vinaigrette or peanut / satay sauce. In Semarang, cakwe is usually sold as a street snack at kaki lima, at the same stalls that sell bolang-baling and untir.
Cakwe step by step
- Campur & aduk rata bahan biang. Diamkan sekitar 10-15 menit (berbuih).
- Campur tepung + BP + BS + kaldu bubuk + garam = aduk rata dengan spatula. Masukkan biang, aduk rata dengan spatula.
- Tuangi air sedikit² sambil di uleni samapai kalis. Tambahkan minyak goreng, uleni sampai elastis. Bulatkan adonan, tutup dengan lap kering. Diamkan 2-3 jam.
- Setelah 2 jam, timbang adonan & bagi menjadi 2. Gilang panjang masing² adonan. Jangan terlalu tipis atau tebal..
- Kemudian potong² adonan sepanjang 15 cm & lebar 2 cm. Tumpuk 2 adonan, tekan tengahnya dengan sumpit atau tusuk sate (tekan agak kuat supaya menempel). Lakukan sampai adonan habis.
- Panaskan minyak goreng agak banyak dengan api sedang. Goreng adonan sampai berwarna kecoklatan. Angkat & tiriskan.
